NYE, just another day.

New Year's Eve just isn't what it used to be, and that is A-OK with me.

I can remember how New Year's Eve used to be an epic event each year. Where was I going to celebrate? Did I have a ride there? a ride home? What was I going to wear? Who was I going to make sure I saw? I would have the grandest of plans and it never seemed to live up to my expectations. Let's just think back on the last few years...

2010: Played bingo at the club, had a great time, made sure I got back to my boyfriend at the time (who could have cared less) and ended up being sick and sitting on the toilet (yes, sitting...NOT kneeling in front of) when the clock struck 12. Had to work the next morning at a job I really did not like very much.
2009: Balling my eyes out, realizing it was the beginning of the end of a relationship I couldn't live with and couldn't imagine living without.
2008: In the Twin Cities where it was a frozen tundra dressed like it was summer, trying my hardest not to get "too drunk". I was determined to just get buzzed and although I was sure I had succeeded, thinking back I don't think I fooled anyone.
2007: I was in California, on the eve of marching in the Tournament of Roses Parade, had broken up with the boyfriend at the time over the phone. I decided to ignore advice to NOT drink that night, considering we had to get up at ~5 am the next morning and march 6 miles or so. I vaguely remember holding pina colada wine coolers in each hand singing that Garth Brooks song and being pretty sad to look at.
2006: Can't remember...not sure if it's because it was uneventful/lame or if it's because I totally blacked out.
2005: Missing my boyfriend and wanting nothing else but to be able to kiss him at midnight.
2004: Getting so drunk that while playing Mario Kart I fell out of a recliner. Lost my phone.

2011: I'm sitting on the couch with my step-dad, my parents' cat "Jack", my mom & nephew sleeping in my old bedroom, I'm wearing footy pajamas, and watching a NYE show on TV, and I am Happy & Content.

You can call me boring, and maybe I am, but this is the best NYE I have had since at least the 90's. I am home with my family. I don't have to try and find some douche bag to kiss at midnight. I don't have to worry about being hungover tomorrow morning. In fact, I get to (yes, I GET to...not HAVE to) go to my best friend's baby girl's baptism tomorrow morning. I am a homeowner, I have a job I absolutely love, I am excited about getting clothes hampers for my family Christmas gift. I may have to sleep on the floor tonight because my nephew is sleeping in "his" room, but at least it will be in my mom's living room and when I wake up I will know where I am. I am so incredibly blessed.

Happy New Year all!
